Cover Crops

Cover crops build organic matter, fix nitrogen, control erosion, break hard pans, create habitats for beneficial insects, help eliminate weeds and provides nutrient dense forage for our livestock...  Sustainable agriculture works at HOMEsweetFARM!

The Warm Season...

Sorghum/Sudan with Lablab, 8ft. tall being cut to lay on the soil.  Notice: cut when 80% in flower before setting seeds.

A bird's eye view of Sorghum/Sudan with Lablab fields.  Notice: poultry netting (on the right), containing our laying hens on a 1/4 acre.  They love the shade/shelter of this cover crop and stay busy foraging for grasshoppers.

Iron and Clay Peas, excellent for nitrogen fixation, erosion control, weed suppression and high quality forage.  Grows to 3 ft.
