Tomato Fest 2005

We had 14 people out for our first Plant Your Own Workday.  The morning included light showers and left us wondering if anyone would even turn out.  Then the weather cleared in time for our workshop and the faithful ones planted nearly an acre of vegetables with irrigation in less than two hours.  This is to show how with good planning and commitment, a small group can easily produce food for the community.  Thanks to all who came out.  Enjoy the pics!

Getting Started with our group from Rice University.

400 tomatoes, 400 bell peppers, 200 eggplant; 20 minutes later; Farmer Zack smiles.

Direct seeding honeydew melons, watermelon, cucumbers, green beans and summer squash...

Drip irrigation completes the work.
